FiveM Server Rules
Contents
In brief
- You must be 18 or older and a verified member of the SVNL Discord.
- No out-of-character talk in game. Anything out of character goes in Discord.
- Play your character like a real person, and act like their life matters to them.
- Violence needs a roleplay reason and a clear sign that a fight has started. Crew wars and paid hits count.
- If you respawn, your character forgets what led to it and stays away from that scene for 15 minutes. If EMS or the hospital check-in revives you, you remember.
- Don't log off to get out of a scene. If you crash, rejoin within 10 minutes.
- No cheats or exploits. Graphics, texture and sound packs are fine within the limits in rule 9.2; no other client-side mods.
- No ERP, sexual assault, torture, graphic gore, suicide or self-harm. Other heavy topics need everyone's agreement in Discord first.
- Report problems in a ticket in the SVNL Discord within 48 hours.
About these rules
These are the rules for roleplay on SVNL's FiveM server. They sit alongside the Code of Conduct, which covers every SVNL space, and set out how roleplay works in the city. The Code of Conduct still applies in game, and nothing here replaces it. If this page and the Code of Conduct ever disagree, the Code of Conduct applies.
These rules apply in game, including on the supporter-only SVNLRP+ server, and in the in-character (IC) channels of the SVNL Discord.
Staff judge each case on what a rule is there to stop, not only on its exact wording. If something isn't written here but it wrecks roleplay for other people, staff can still act on it. If you're not sure whether something is allowed, ask in the SVNL Discord before you do it.
Each section ends with the usual consequences for breaking its rules. Rule 11.6 has the full scale.
1. Before you play
1.1 You must be 18 or older
You must be 18 or older to play on the server. There are no exceptions. The same age limit applies to the SVNL Discord and to website accounts.
1.2 Verify in the Discord first
The server's whitelist is the SVNL Discord. Join the Discord and verify there, and you can join the server. Verifying means you've agreed to the Code of Conduct, the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy, so everyone in the city has signed up to the same rules.
1.3 Follow the platform terms
On the FiveM server you also have to follow the FiveM and Cfx.re terms and Rockstar Games' terms. If those terms ban something, it's banned here too.
1.4 Use a working microphone
Roleplay on SVNL happens in voice. Your mic needs to be clear, and it shouldn't pick up loud background noise, music or other people in your room. Don't play by typing in place of talking.
If a disability or medical condition makes voice hard or impossible for you, open a ticket in the SVNL Discord before you play. Staff can approve another way for you to take part.
Usual consequences: a player under 18 is removed from the server and the Discord. Mic problems get a warning first, then a kick if they carry on.
2. General conduct
2.1 Respect the player behind the character
Your character can be rude, dishonest or a criminal. You still can't use them to go after the real person. The respect rules in section 2 of the Code of Conduct apply in character as well as out of it, and calling something roleplay won't excuse it.
None of these count as roleplay:
- slurs or hate speech, whether you say them or your character does, including at a character who's been downed
- comments about another player's real voice, looks, accent, health or life outside the game
- sexual comments or advances that someone hasn't agreed to
- following one player from scene to scene, or from character to character, to target them
2.2 No out-of-character talk in game
There's no out-of-character (OOC) talk in game at all. That covers voice, text chat, /me and in-game phone messages.
OOC talk belongs in the SVNL Discord, for example in #chat.
If a glitch interrupts a scene, cover it in character or carry on. "Sorry, I zoned out for a second" keeps the scene going. Saying "lag" or "my game crashed" stops it.
When you do need to reach the other players in a scene out of character, for example to agree to a heavy topic (rule 3.8) or to tell them you crashed (rule 5.5), do it in Discord.
2.3 Play through problems and report afterwards
If you think someone has broken a rule, stay in character and let the scene finish, then report it in the SVNL Discord (section 11). Stopping a scene to argue about rules means nobody gets to finish it, and staff will look at it properly once it's reported.
Don't wait if it involves harassment, hate, cheating or someone's safety. Open a ticket straight away.
Technical problems that stop you playing, such as being stuck in the map, also go in a ticket in the SVNL Discord.
2.4 No trolling
Come to the city to roleplay. Don't do things just to get a reaction or to wreck a scene. For example:
- walking into a scene you're not part of to yell nonsense or start a fight
- playing music, sound effects or a soundboard through your mic to annoy people
- spamming emotes, props, horns or interactions at someone
- ignoring everyone who tries to roleplay with you, or only ever looking for a fight
2.5 No cop baiting or griefing
Cop baiting means provoking police into a chase or a fight with no roleplay reason behind it. Doing burnouts outside the police station until someone chases you is cop baiting. Fake 000 calls aren't allowed for any reason (rule 7.6).
Winding up other players to get something started is part of roleplay, as long as it doesn't turn into griefing. Griefing means setting out to ruin other players' roleplay, including using bugs to annoy people and picking on the same player again and again in character.
2.6 Keep the real world out of the city
Real-world politics, current news and arguments between players from outside the game don't belong in roleplay.
2.7 No real-world extremist, hate or criminal groups
Don't portray, name, reference or support real-world terrorist, extremist, hate or criminal groups. That covers anything that identifies them, like names, patches, colours or slogans, and it includes real bikie clubs and street gangs. Your crew can be made up, but it can't be a real one.
2.8 Music
Copyrighted music is fine in game, but only through the in-game phone's music app or a car radio. Streamer mode mutes that music, so people streaming nearby stay safe from copyright strikes. Never play music through your mic.
2.9 No advertising
Don't advertise other servers, Discords, communities or paid services in game, including in phone posts and adverts (Code of Conduct section 4).
2.10 Discord counts too
The SVNL Discord follows the Code of Conduct (section 6), and that includes no NSFW content anywhere in it. Staff can act in game on what you do in Discord, and the other way around.
Usual consequences: OOC talk, trolling, cop baiting, griefing and music through your mic start with a warning, and so does advertising. NSFW content in Discord starts at a long ban. Hate speech and real-world extremist or criminal groups start at a long ban and can go straight to a permanent ban.
3. Roleplay standards
3.1 Play a real person
Play your character the way a real person would act in their situation, with real fears, limits and consequences. Before your character does something big, you should be able to say why they'd do it.
3.2 Fail RP
Fail RP is anything that breaks realistic roleplay, such as doing something your character couldn't do or ignoring what's happening in a scene. For example:
- carrying on as normal after being shot or crashing at high speed
- taking a supercar off-road up a mountain
- joining a scene to troll instead of roleplaying
- ignoring a police officer's orders for no reason, or refusing to play along with being cuffed, searched or detained
- giving your character a trait like "fearless" or "stunt driver" only to excuse something nobody would survive
3.3 Metagaming
Metagaming is using information your character doesn't have. What you learn out of character stays out of character. That includes:
- watching someone's stream or clips to find people, plans or locations (stream sniping)
- anything from Discord, group chats or voice calls outside the game
- anything you only know from the game's interface, such as server IDs, name tags or a player list, and not because your character saw or heard it
- recognising a masked character because you know the player behind them
- passing information from one of your characters to another (rule 4.4)
For example, a mate messages you on Discord to say police are waiting at the Jetsam depot. Your character doesn't know that, so you can't change your plans because of it. Or you recognise a masked robber's voice because you've played other games with that person. Your character has never heard that voice, so to them it's a stranger.
Server IDs are for reports (section 11), not for finding or identifying people in game.
The SVNL Discord has no in-character channels. Everything there, #chat included, is out of character, so your character can't use anything they only read there.
Crews can have their own Discord server. Treat it as out of character: it's fine for organising the crew and arranging when to play, but don't use it to pass on anything a character hasn't learned in game.
Businesses don't get their own Discord servers. A business can post its adverts in #advertisement in the SVNL Discord.
3.4 Powergaming
Powergaming is forcing an outcome on other players, or doing something unrealistic to win. For example:
- describing actions that leave the other person no chance to respond, like a /me that has them tied up in your boot before they can answer
- using /me to give your character an item, injury or skill they don't have
- using game mechanics or physics in ways a real person couldn't, to escape or get an edge
- acting on voices you only heard because the game carried them through a wall or a closed car
- refusing to accept the result of a scene you lost
Roleplay works in turns. Say what your character does, give the other player time to react, and play out what comes next. A scene you lose can still be a good scene.
3.5 Value your life
Your character wants to stay alive. If you're outnumbered or someone has a weapon on you, comply or react with the fear a real person would feel. Don't start or drag out a fight you can't win just because respawning is easy.
For example:
- three people with guns stop you while you're unloading your PostOP van and tell you to hand over the keys, so you hand them over
- you don't drive off a cliff or into the water to lose a chase
- you don't run into a gunfight that has nothing to do with your character
3.6 Roleplay your injuries
Injuries should affect your character the way they would a real person. A gunshot or a bad crash means pain, shock and time to recover. When you're hurt, use /me to tell medics what's wrong.
If EMS revives you, keep playing the injury. Don't jump up and run off as if nothing happened. You don't have to go to hospital unless EMS take you there.
3.7 Banned topics
These topics are banned outright, even if everyone in the scene agrees:
- sexual assault
- torture or graphic gore
- suicide or self-harm
- erotic roleplay (rule 3.9)
Any sexual content involving minors is an immediate permanent ban and may be reported to police (Code of Conduct section 2).
If you're dealing with any of this in real life, please talk to someone. In an emergency, call 000.
3.8 Heavy topics need everyone's agreement first
Some heavy topics are allowed, but only if every player involved agrees before the scene starts. Give that agreement out of character, in Discord. Heavy topics include:
- drawn-out kidnapping or hostage scenes (rule 5.6)
- graphic violence that stops short of the banned topics above
- scenes involving abuse
- police brutality, or similar abuse of authority
If you're not sure whether something counts, treat it as heavy and ask first. Anyone who agreed can change their mind, and the scene then stops or skips past that part. Staff can stop any scene that goes too far.
3.9 No erotic roleplay (ERP)
There's no erotic roleplay on SVNL at all. Characters can date, flirt and be in relationships, but nothing sexual gets roleplayed, in voice, text, /me or anywhere else.
3.10 Server restarts
Keep playing seriously right up to a restart. A restart coming up doesn't make it fine to wreck a car or start a fight.
If a restart interrupts a scene, pick it up again when everyone is back on. If police had you in custody when the server went down, go back to them when you log in so they can finish dealing with you.
Usual consequences: Fail RP, powergaming and not valuing your life start with a warning. Starting a heavy topic without agreement starts with a short ban. Metagaming, stream sniping, banned topics and ERP start at a long ban and can go to a permanent ban. Sexual content involving minors is always a permanent ban.
4. Characters
4.1 Every character is an adult
Every character must be 18 or older, and the character creator won't let you make one younger. Don't portray anyone under 18 through your voice, the way your character talks, or how they look and dress.
4.2 Use a realistic name
Your character needs a believable first name and surname. No joke names, no names that turn rude when you say them out loud, and no names borrowed from celebrities or other real people.
4.3 Look like a real person
Your character's face, body and clothes should look like someone you could pass in the street. Don't build an appearance to mock the setting or other players, and don't wear the colours or patches of a real-world gang (rule 2.7).
4.4 Playing more than one character
You can have up to 2 characters, or up to 5 with SVNLRP+. If your SVNLRP+ ends, characters you've already made stay playable, but you can't make new ones past 2.
- What one character knows, the others don't (rule 3.3).
- Your characters can help each other in other ways. For example, your EMS character can earn money and pass it to your other characters (rule 8.2).
- Switching characters to get out of a scene is combat logging (rule 5.5).
4.5 Characters that need staff approval
Ask staff in the SVNL Discord before you play any of these:
- a character who isn't an ordinary human, such as one with real powers (a character who only thinks they have powers doesn't need approval)
- an animal ped, or one of the game's built-in NPC peds
- a character built around repeated serious violence, such as a serial killer, which also falls under heavy topics (rule 3.8)
4.6 Character death
Only the player who owns a character can decide to kill them off for good, and nobody can force it on you. Once a character is gone for good, you can't play them again, under their old name or a new one.
4.7 Voice changers and soundboards
Voice changers are allowed, as long as they aren't painfully loud or harsh to listen to. Never use one to sound like a child (rule 4.1).
Using a soundboard to annoy people is trolling (rule 2.4).
Usual consequences: a name, look or voice that breaks these rules gets a warning, and staff may ask you to change it. Portraying a character as under 18 starts at a long ban.
5. Combat and conflict
5.1 Random deathmatch (RDM)
RDM is attacking or killing another player without a roleplay reason. Your character needs a reason for violence that makes sense for them. Someone bumping into you or insulting you once isn't enough.
5.2 Show that a fight is starting
Before violence, there has to be a clear sign in character that things have turned hostile, such as a threat, a demand, or someone pulling a weapon on the other person.
Some fights count as already started:
- Crews in an ongoing conflict with each other are already initiated, so they can fight whenever they meet.
- A contract hit, or any other attack from a distance, doesn't need words first, as long as there's a roleplay reason behind it, such as a paid contract or a grudge your character has been building.
5.3 Vehicle deathmatch (VDM)
VDM is running someone over or ramming them with no roleplay reason, and it's banned. Once there's a reason, such as a chase or a fight that's already under way, vehicles can be part of it. You can ram, block or run someone down the same way you could shoot them. PIT manoeuvres are allowed in any chase.
5.4 New life rule (NLR)
If your character dies and you respawn, they forget the events that led to their death.
- For 15 minutes after you respawn, don't return to the scene and don't act on anything that happened there.
- Your character doesn't remember who killed them or why, so don't take revenge or pass on what happened.
The new life rule only applies when you respawn. If EMS revives you, or you're treated at the hospital check-in, your character remembers what happened.
A few more details:
- You can only respawn once the in-game respawn timer has run out, and never while the scene is still going. Respawning to escape a scene counts as combat logging (rule 5.5).
- While you're down, you can call for help and describe your injuries, but don't tell anyone who downed you or where they went.
- Once the 15 minutes are up, another character who saw what happened can tell your character about it in game.
5.5 Combat logging
Don't leave the server to get out of a scene, whether that's to avoid being robbed, arrested or killed, or to keep your items. Quitting, alt-F4 and cutting your connection all count. So does getting your character killed on purpose, or respawning, to escape what's happening in a scene.
If you crash or lose connection during a scene, rejoin within 10 minutes and let the people involved know through Discord. If you don't, the scene may carry on without you. If you don't know who they are, open a ticket and staff can pass the message on.
If you have to leave for a real-life reason, tell the people in the scene through Discord before you go.
After your character commits a crime or gets into a fight or a chase, stay on the server for at least 30 minutes from when it started, even if you got away.
5.6 Kidnapping and hostages
Kidnapping someone or taking a hostage needs at least a low police presence (rule 6.5).
Don't hold someone for more than 15 minutes with nothing happening. Keeping a hostage through a bank robbery is fine, because the scene is still going. Driving them from bank to bank while nothing happens isn't.
A longer kidnapping storyline is a heavy topic, so every player involved has to agree first, out of character in Discord (rule 3.8).
When the scene ends, let the person go somewhere they can get back into roleplay. Don't leave them tied up with no way to get free, or stranded somewhere remote with no road out.
Torture is banned in every scene (rule 3.7). Ransoms can only be paid in in-game money or items (rule 6.8).
Usual consequences: RDM, VDM and combat logging start with a short ban, and a long ban if they happen again. Breaking the new life rule or the kidnapping limits starts with a warning.
6. Crime and gangs
These rules cover crime of every size, from robbing one person to bigger jobs, and they apply to any crime added to the city later.
6.1 Crime needs a story
Your character should have a reason for a crime, and the people on the other side, including the victims and the police, should get roleplay out of it too. Pick targets for a reason in character.
6.2 Robbing other players
- Robbing a player needs at least a low police presence (rule 6.5).
- Show that it's a robbery first, as rule 5.2 sets out.
- You can take what you want from their inventory without describing each item.
- Don't keep robbing the same person or group. A grudge between two groups isn't a reason to rob the same people over and over (rule 2.5).
- Police can be robbed too, including their weapons and equipment (rule 7.6).
6.3 Group size for heists and robberies
No more than 4 players from one group can take part in a heist or a robbery. Lookouts, drivers and anyone passing on information by radio or phone count towards that number.
Outside heists and robberies there's no player limit. That includes uneven fights, so 8 players can take on 2.
6.4 Crews, gangs and organisations
A crew is a group of characters who commit crime together. Crews and gangs have to be made up, not based on real-world groups (rule 2.7).
For now, register a crew by opening a ticket in the SVNL Discord. A crew can be any size, but a crew of more than 8 members needs staff approval.
6.5 Police on duty
Any crime against another player, such as robbing or kidnapping them, needs at least a low police presence. The pause menu shows the current level.
6.6 Time between crimes
There's no set waiting time between crimes for now.
6.7 One crime at a time
If another group's crime is already under way, stay out of it unless your character is already part of that story. Once police have arrived at your crime, don't bring in more people or fetch more weapons.
6.8 In-character scams
Scamming in character is part of crime roleplay, but only for in-game money and items. Don't run a scam that relies on out-of-character lies, such as real-life friendships, Discord deals or promises made outside the game.
Never scam anyone out of real money, subscriptions or accounts (Code of Conduct section 5).
Staff won't refund losses from an in-character scam or robbery that followed the rules.
Don't pretend to own or work for a player-run business, or act as a go-between for one, to scam people.
6.9 Breaking someone out of custody
Breaking someone out of police custody is allowed at any time.
Usual consequences: breaking the crime rules starts with a warning, and staff can undo what the crime gained. A scam for real money, subscriptions or accounts is a permanent ban.
7. Police, EMS and government
These rules cover anyone on duty as police or EMS or in a government or legal role, and how everyone else treats them.
7.1 A higher standard
Police, EMS and government roles come with tools, information and powers other players don't have. Use them only for the job. If you break a rule using a job's tools, you can lose the job as well as facing the usual consequences in rule 11.6.
Apply for police and EMS jobs through the SEEK app on your phone.
7.2 On duty means on duty
Use job tools, menus, vehicles, radios and records only while you're on duty, and only for the job. Off duty, your character is a civilian like anyone else.
7.3 Follow your department
On duty, police and EMS follow their department's lawful directions and the training they've been given.
7.4 Use force that fits
Police should use force that suits the situation, the way real officers are expected to. Police brutality, or any other abuse of authority, is a heavy topic, so everyone involved has to agree first (rule 3.8).
7.5 Corruption
Small-scale corruption is fine in roleplay, such as an officer taking a bribe to look the other way. Anything on the scale of stealing from the police evidence vault gets you banned.
7.6 Treating police and EMS
For everyone else in the city:
- police can be robbed, including their weapons and equipment, but the evidence vault is off limits (rule 7.5)
- never rob or attack EMS while they're on duty, whether or not they're treating someone
- play along when police detain, cuff or search you. Your character can argue, stay silent or try to get away, but you can't ignore it (rule 3.2).
- never make a fake 000 call, whether it's to lure police or EMS into a trap or only to waste their time
- don't use EMS as a trap, such as calling a medic to someone you've just downed so you can rob or grab them once they're back on their feet
7.7 Emergency driving
On-duty police and EMS follow road rules unless they're responding with lights and sirens on.
7.8 Government and legal roles
Government roles are held by SVNL admins. Judge and lawyer roles aren't available yet.
Usual consequences: misusing a job's tools or powers gets a warning and can cost you the job. Robbing or attacking on-duty EMS starts with a short ban, and a fake 000 call with a warning. Corruption on the scale of the evidence vault is a long ban.
8. Jobs, businesses and economy
8.1 No real-money trading
In-game money, items, vehicles and characters have no real-world value. Don't buy, sell or trade them for real money, gift cards, crypto, items in other games or anything else outside SVNL. Don't sell, buy or share accounts either (Code of Conduct section 5).
8.2 Working the city's jobs
The city's jobs are PostOP, trucking with Jetsam, mining with Tim's T.A.M, fishing with Lucky Fin, and sanitation with HOBO. Do them the way your character would, and run them as often as you like.
Don't use macros or auto-clickers on a job (Code of Conduct section 3), leave a job running while you're away from the keyboard, or use a trick to skip the work or multiply the pay. Tricks like that are exploits (section 9).
You can move money and items between your own characters (rule 4.4).
8.3 Player-run businesses
Only SVNLRP+ members can buy and run a business, such as a mechanic, a 24/7 or a petrol station. You can only own a business that staff have already set up, and you can't request a custom one.
If your SVNLRP+ subscription runs out, what happens to your business depends on its size:
- If you own a small store, such as a 24/7 or an LTD, you get a warning and 2 days to renew. If you need more time, contact staff in the SVNL Discord to ask.
- For a bigger city business, such as a mechanic, staff decide. Usually the owner is removed and the business is shut down for a while.
Section 9 of the Terms of Service explains how this works with cancellations and bans.
8.4 Lost items and refunds
If you lose items to a bug, staff can return them if you can prove it, for example with a clip or screenshot.
Using an exploit to gain a lot of money or items can get you banned, and staff will remove what you gained (Code of Conduct section 3). Losses from in-character scams and robberies that followed the rules aren't refunded (rule 6.8).
Usual consequences: exploiting for money or items is a long ban, and staff remove what you gained. Real-money trading is usually a permanent ban, and AFK farming or job tricks start with a warning.
9. Exploits and cheating
9.1 No cheats
No cheats, mod menus, injectors, aimbots, wallhacks or other software that gives you an advantage or affects other players. That includes crosshair overlays and crosshairs built into your monitor. No scripts or macros that play for you. Cheating usually goes straight to a permanent ban (Code of Conduct section 3).
9.2 Client-side mods
Graphics packs, texture packs and sound packs are allowed, as long as they don't:
- hide or remove bushes, vegetation or trees
- give you clearer vision than the normal game, for example by removing fog, haze or darkness
- set the time of day on your own game
- remove the weather
Any other change to the game client isn't allowed. That means no modified game files, trainers, menus or injectors.
Mods that make other players easier to see or hear, such as ones that remove bushes or make footsteps louder, are treated as cheating.
Standard operating system and accessibility tools are fine, and so is recording or streaming software. Voice changers are allowed too (rule 4.7).
9.3 Report bugs, don't use them
No exploiting bugs, such as duplicating items or money, getting through walls, or using broken mechanics to get ahead. If you find a bug, report it privately in the SVNL Discord and don't tell anyone else how it works. Abusing an exploit is a ban.
Knowing about a bug that duplicates items or money and keeping quiet about it is also a breach.
9.4 Binds and macros
No macros or scripts that play the game for you (Code of Conduct section 3). Don't bind a /me that does several actions at once. Type each action so the other player can respond.
9.5 No ban evasion
Don't use a second account, a friend's account or a new game licence to get around a ban. Ban evasion usually goes straight to a permanent ban.
Usual consequences: cheats, visibility mods and ban evasion usually go straight to a permanent ban, and abusing an exploit is a long ban. Other client-side mods, such as modified game files, and /me binds start with a warning, and keeping quiet about a dupe bug starts with a short ban.
10. Streaming and content
10.1 Anyone can stream
You can stream and record your gameplay on SVNL. Streamers have no extra requirements beyond these rules, and you're responsible for what you stream and post. Follow your streaming platform's own rules as well.
Streamers get exactly the same tools and access as every other player, and the rules apply to them the same way. Special access is only given on special request, and only if the owner or co-owner decides to allow it.
10.2 Stream sniping is metagaming
Don't use anyone's streams, past broadcasts or clips to find people, plans or locations, and don't get someone else to watch for you. Staff treat stream sniping as a serious form of metagaming (rule 3.3).
10.3 Keep private things off stream
Don't show tickets, reports, private Discord channels or anyone's personal information on stream.
10.4 You might be on someone else's stream
The city is a shared space. Anything you do in a public scene may end up in another player's stream or recording, and SVNL can't control every recording.
10.5 Sharing your stream
Share your stream links in #content-promotion and nowhere else. This is an exception to the advertising rule (Code of Conduct section 4).
Usual consequences: stream sniping starts at a long ban. Showing someone's personal information on stream is doxxing, which starts at a long ban and can go straight to a permanent ban. Showing tickets or private channels starts with a warning.
11. Reports, staff and enforcement
Report a playerAppeal a banHow reports and appeals work
11.1 How to report
Report rule breaks by opening a ticket in the SVNL Discord, or email support@svnlstudio.com.au. Report within 48 hours of the incident. Staff will still look at a later report if there's a good reason it took longer.
Include:
- who was involved (character names, and server IDs if you have them)
- the date and roughly what time it happened
- what happened, in your own words
- any clips or screenshots, with enough before the incident to show how it started
You can trim clips, but don't edit them in any other way.
11.2 Keep it between you and staff
Finish the scene first if you can (rule 2.3). Don't argue about it in game or in public channels, and don't take revenge. Don't try to enforce the rules yourself, either by punishing someone in character or by calling them out in Discord. Making a false report, or reporting someone to get back at them, is itself a breach.
Staff may ask the people involved for their side before deciding what to do. Staff might not tell you the outcome of a report about another player.
11.3 Staff in game
Staff make calls in the moment so scenes can keep going. In game, do what staff ask straight away, even if you disagree, and take it up afterwards in the SVNL Discord. Be honest with staff. Lying to staff, in a report, an appeal or anywhere else, breaks the rules.
Staff usually contact you through Discord. For big events, staff may message players in game through txAdmin announcements or the admin menu.
11.4 Don't impersonate staff
Don't pretend to be staff or claim to speak for staff, in game, in Discord or anywhere else. That includes names or profile pictures made to look like a staff member's, and saying staff allowed something when they didn't. Impersonating staff is a permanent ban.
11.5 Staff can act without a report
Staff don't need a report to act on a rule break they see themselves. They can also act on behaviour these rules don't list if it harms other players or SVNL.
11.6 What happens when you break a rule
Staff choose a response that fits how serious the breach was and the circumstances around it, including whether it was deliberate and your history. The scale has five steps:
| Step | What it means |
|---|---|
| Warning | Staff tell you what you did wrong and record a warning. It expires after 90 days if you don't break the rules again in that time. |
| Kick | You're removed from the server straight away, and a warning goes on your record. |
| Short ban | A ban of 1 to 3 days. |
| Long ban | A ban of 4 to 30 days. |
| Permanent ban | You can't come back unless an appeal succeeds. You can appeal at any time (rule 11.7). |
Staff can skip steps. Breaking the rules again while you still have a warning on your record usually moves you up a step.

The rules apply the same way to everyone, including subscribers and streamers.
11.7 Appeals
You can appeal a staff decision at any time. There's no time limit. Open a ticket in the SVNL Discord, say which decision you're appealing and why you think it should change, then wait for a reply. Section 9 of the Code of Conduct has the full process.
11.8 Changes to these rules
We may change these rules. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and we'll announce significant changes on this site or in the Discord. If you keep playing after a change, the new rules apply to you.
